Nintendo Suspends Switch 2 Pre-Orders Due to Tariff Uncertainty Under Trump

Nintendo has stopped accepting pre-orders for Switch 2. on the US due to Trump's abrasive tariff plan, which was announced in the last week, sending waves across the world.

"Pre-orders for Nintendo Switch 2 in the US will not start on April 9, 2025, in order to assess the potential impact of Trump tariffs and evolving market conditions," the company stated and added that the date for launch of June 5 is not changed.

The Kyoto-based company debuted the much-anticipated switch 2 preorders on Wednesday the day US president Donald Trump announced massive new tariffs.

Nintendo has been the only major corporation to react to the tariffs imposed by President Trump and their effect on consumer and business spending. The major electronics manufacturers are vulnerable to these tariffs, and particularly those that cater to consumers such as Nintendo that make the consoles they sell at their factories in Asia and then export these consoles into other markets.

Nintendo is a Japanese company, made a move to get rid of tariffs under the initial Trump administration. In the year 2019 it began shifting parts portions of Switch production out of China to Vietnam after the US put tax hikes against Chinese imports. According to reports, Nintendo has transferred Nintendo switch 2 delayed productions to Vietnam and Cambodia to reduce tariffs. But, Vietnam and Cambodia have now been affected by 46 percent and 49 percent tariffs, respectively. These are among the highest rates revealed from the White House on Wednesday.

Nintendo hasn't announced if it is planning to raise the cost of the console, which currently Nintendo switch 2 price at $450 US this makes it the most costly console. The first Switch was launched in the year 2017 cost $300. In Japan, Nintendo will sell the Switch 2 variant that only includes Japanese as an operating language for $340. This is in contrast to the multi-language version priced at about $480.
